Frequently Asked Questions

For Participants - Who is this program for?

The Portfolio Review Sprint is designed for UX and Product Designers who are preparing for job interviews in 2026 and want to strengthen their portfolios through real, hiring-style feedback. It’s ideal for students, career switchers, and early-to-mid-level designers who already have portfolio case studies and are ready to iterate.

Do I need a portfolio to apply?

Yes. You must have a portfolio with at least 3 case studies, written in English. The portfolio can be a website or a PDF. This ensures the review sessions are focused, meaningful, and actionable.

How many case studies will be reviewed?

Mentors will review 1–2 selected case studies in depth during the live sessions. The focus is on quality, storytelling, and decision-making, rather than reviewing everything at a surface level.

Is this a group session or a 1:1 review?

This is a 1:1 mentor–mentee portfolio review. You’ll receive personalized feedback tailored to your goals, experience level, and target roles.

How much time should I plan to commit?

Participants should plan for:

  • 1 live 1:1 review session (Week 1)
  • 1 live final review session (Week 2)
  • Time in between to iterate on your portfolio

Overall, expect around 5–6 hours over two weeks.

Will this help me get a job?

While we can’t guarantee job placement, the sprint is designed to help you become interview-ready. You’ll gain clarity on how hiring managers evaluate portfolios, improve your storytelling, and feel more confident presenting your work.

Will I receive a certificate?

Yes. Mentors will receive an IterateUX Portfolio Reviewer certificate.

Is this program free or paid?

Yes, this program is completely free for participants as part of the IterateUX community initiative.

Who can apply to be a mentor?

UX professionals with 4+ years of experience in UX, Product Design, or related roles are encouraged to apply. Experience reviewing portfolios, mentoring, or hiring is a plus but not required.

What is the mentor time commitment?

Mentors typically commit to:

  • Two live 1:1 review sessions per mentee
  • 4–5 mentees, based on mentor availability and preference
  • Light asynchronous review or preparation between sessions

The total time commitment is approximately 2–3 hours per mentee over the course of the sprint.

How many designers will I mentor?

Each mentor will be matched with 4–5 designers per sprint to ensure meaningful engagement without overload.

What support will mentors receive?

Mentors receive:

  • A portfolio review rubric
  • Clear guidelines and expectations
  • Session agenda templates
  • Support from the IterateUX team throughout the sprint
Do mentors receive recognition?

Yes. Mentors receive:

  • An IterateUX Mentor Certificate

Is the program remote?

Yes. The Portfolio Review Sprint is 100% remote, making it accessible to mentors and participants globally.

How are mentors and participants matched?

Matching is based on:

  • Experience level
  • Career goals
  • Portfolio focus
  • Availability and time zones

This ensures relevant and productive reviews.

What happens if I need to reschedule a session?
