Frequently Asked Questions
Who is this program for?
UX Launchpad is designed for:
-
Aspiring UX designers who want their first real-world project
-
Junior designers looking to level up and gain client experience
-
Mid- to senior-level designers interested in mentoring, project management, or diversifying their portfolio
We also welcome product designers, researchers, and UI designers who want to strengthen their UX skills.
How much time will I need each week?
Plan for 15-20 hours per week. This includes team meetings, client check-ins, research, design work, and presentations. Your exact time may vary depending on your role and team pace.
How much does it cost?
$175 per month for 4 months = $700 in total. Prices are in US dollars. Payment is due upon registration.
What if I change my mind?
How will I be placed in a team?
When you register, you’ll complete a short questionnaire about your skills, availability, and interests. We’ll match you with a diverse team to balance skills and experience.
Do I need prior UX experience?
No! We welcome beginners who are committed to learning and contributing. That said, basic familiarity with design tools (like Figma) and a robust UX 101 knowledge is expected to help you make the most of the experience.
Will I get a certificate?
Yes — all participants receive a digital certificate of completion, plus your final case study for your portfolio.
What kinds of businesses will I work with?
We partner with startups, nonprofits, and small to mid-sized companies across different industries. Each project is a real problem the business needs solved — no made-up case studies.
What if I can’t make every meeting or workshop?
We record all workshops so you can watch later. For team meetings, you are required to attend live, but your team can coordinate asynchronous work if you miss a session.
Will I have a mentor?
Teams are assigned a mentor who can guide you on process, feedback, and professional growth.
Can I join if I live outside Canada?
Absolutely! The program is fully online. We assign teams based on overlapping time zones. That said, the businesses you will work with are in North America, and you will be expected to adjust your hours to their schedules.
What tools will we use?
The tools you use will be entirely dependent on your project. Typically, teams use Figma for design, Zoom & Google Meet for meetings, and Discord for communication.
How is this different from an internship?
In UX Launchpad, you’ll have more creative ownership, direct business interaction and a shorter, more intense project timeline — all designed to help you grow quickly and create a polished case study.
What happens after the program?
You’ll leave with:
-
A completed, real-world UX case study for your portfolio
-
Business and mentor feedback to strengthen your work
-
An expanded professional network
-
Ongoing access to the IterateUX community
Can I work solo instead of in a team?
This is a team-based program because collaboration is a key part of real-world UX work.
Can I switch teams during Launchpad?
Your team assignments are final. One of the core principles of UX Launchpad is to simulate real-world experience — and in the real world, we don’t get to switch teams when things get tough.
You’ll navigate challenges, communication differences, and collaboration — all things that are incredibly valuable to experience now, in a safe and supportive space.
That said, if something serious comes up, we’re always here to help.
